I agree. WSA provides an excellent vehicle to do just that. Have you ever used ISPF's "distributed Edit" and "distributed Browse" features?

When WSA is active, you can choose to edit or browse a workstation file right on the Edit or Browse entry panels. All file transfers take place behind the scenes, transparently.

You can also use Workstation Integration feature of ISPF to edit or browse mainframe files using your favourite workstation editor.

Works like a charm, and comes free with ISPF.
