For folks who want to 'fly under the radar' and install Linux in
an LPAR in order to experiment, there is not much straightforward
information. The Redbooks and the SHARE sessions are orientated
toward sites with VM and with officially sanctioned (service
contract) versions of Linux.
I would like to see a SHARE session titled, 'The Cheapskate Idiot's
Guide to Installing non-VM Linux in an LPAR.'
I saw on IBM website some presentation about it. It was focued on
important topic: IODF configuration for Linux in LPAR. Two points:
- Linux does not read IODF file during IPL,
- it cannot safely share disk resources.
So, it requires resource isolation at LPAR level (not OS config) and it
have to be isolation, not sharing.
Of course it does not cover all the topic of Linux installation, it's
only small brick in the wall, but very important one.
