The first two bytes specify the segment length. The next two bytes specify the segment number of the spanned record. The next 4 bytes are the standard RDW bytes for the record itself, especially if it is a variable length record.

The first two bytes are the length of THIS SEGMENT. The next byte contains flags denoting first, middle, last or only segment. The next byte is zero. These four bytes are followed by the actual segment data, 4 bytes shorter than the length shown in the first two bytes.
