Oh really? And did you then publish elsewhere the contents of LNKLST, the
APF list, and other important system info stored in PARMLIB that is NOT
performance related?

Ever consider that your better application people (the ones who still know
how to use assembler effectively and with sophistication, for the benefit of
the business's bottom line) might need that information you just closed off?

Agreed, outsiders telling you how to bake your bread when it's your oven and
your dinner is annoying at the least -- but to cut off access to everyone
but the privileged sysprog is closet-think of the worst sort. If the
consultants are bothering you, fire them, or limit *their* access (I can see
that as a reasonable security precaution, actually) but not the entire shop.

The attitude I don't understand seems to be "If I hide it they won't find
out how I do my job, or bother me about it, or try to show me a better way
to get this business done than I know about".

Good relations between sysprogs and application programmers are crucial to
business success. Locking yourself and your data in a closet does not help.
