The channel is just an interface. That shouldn't change the tape format.
Right, however there is another emulation mode for FC. It is named 'Emul STD'.
Note: there are several emulation modes, more than 3490, 3590 and STD. List of available modes depend on interface installed.
Think: If I changed my 9840C from ESCON to FICON, is all my data lost?
Answer: Of course not.
See above. Just found in 9x40 Installation Manual: "3590 emulation improves
performance by using larger block sizes". So, can the larger blocks be read in 3490
mode ?
