I've been using model 27 for DB2 databases for a long time and it works fine even with manual PAV. It helped us implement DB2 online reorgs - which require large amounts of storage to duplicate objects during reorg. We don't do full pack backups, just DB2 partition image copies. Dasd response time is not a problem either.
