You would need all systems in the sysplex down or perhaps a sysplex wide IPL without the dsn specified in the COUPLExx member. I've actually never tried to discontinue the use of a particular type of couple data set, so I am just guessing here. Even if it was a separate sysplex with shared DASD and alll LPARs in the owning sysplex were down, you can't just "move" a couple data set. The VOLSER is saved in the sysplex (XCF) couple data set. So using the supported SETXCF commands to define a new data set, and switching it is the way to go Check the fine manuals and the archives.
