I am not certain if this answers your question, but I have used SAMBA to "share" data between z/OS and Open Systems. Other than a few quirks, it works fine. That being said, SAMBA has not done any further development since release 1.9.18, or something like that. WHy should they...? After all, the mainframe is going away, is it not?
