This is the same "lost" tape incident that I had mentioned in an earlier
post.  I got that letter from IBM because I worked for them at the Tampa
Information Network site in the early 80s when it was first announced.
As far as credit monitoring goes, Consumer Reports says it's not worth
it as a normal process.  The annual free report from each of the three
big credit bureaus should be enough.  Just spread the reports throughout
the year - one from each bureau every 4 months.  But in a case like this
one should take the offer of free monitoring.
