Gee. What a crusade. I can understand being concerned, but this sounds more like an obsession.
While there is a slight risk of ID theft, it would be a -long- stretch. I daresay it would be far easier to simply ask the IRS: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/08/06/govt_password_security/ I've been in the biz long enough that it is painfully obvious to me that there is no practical way to positively safeguard that data. The data has to be viewable to the one with the highest known risk profile: the person with a business need and little regard for security. I think the root of the problem lies elsewhere as does the solution. Am I the only one that finds it a little disturbing that we all too often implement very costly and ineffective solutions to problems that don't exist simply because we don't know what to do about the real problems? Just my $0.02 before taxes. -----Original Message----- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Ed Gould Sent: Tuesday, August 07, 2007 6:36 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Identity Theft - IBM lost his data http://www.informationweek.com/blog/main/archives/2007/08/ ibm_lost_his_da.html NOTICE: This electronic mail message and any files transmitted with it are intended exclusively for the individual or entity to which it is addressed.
