I'm installing z/OS 1.8 on my sandbox. Our Oracle DBA person is testing
it. I know nothing about Oracle. He says it worked fine on z/OS 1.6. He
is getting the following:

<quote>
********************************* TOP OF DATA

SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.2.0 - Production on Wed Sep 5 09:50:03 2007

Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All Rights Reserved.

SQL> SQL> Connected to an idle instance.

SQL> ORA-03135: connection lost contact

SQL> Disconnected

******************************** BOTTOM OF DATA

The description for the error is as follows,

ORA-03135: connection lost contact

Either your server connection was terminated unexpectedly or your server
timed out the connection.

Check if the SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT in sqlnet.ora is not set too
low.
If this is not a problem, check if you have firewall issues. Some
routers are set up to clean up idle TCP connections.

We are not using SQLNET.ORA file in our configuration. Infact I am
issuing the mount command via JCL which should not use the oracle net
services, it should be using the Z/OS XM service (Z/OS cross memory). I
have no clue about XM services, Could please take a look at the XM
services and see if there is a timeout for connections? Appreciate your
help.

As best as I can see, there are no error messages in the MVS SYSLOG. I
have no idea where to look or what to do to address this. Is anybody
else out there running Oracle on z/OS 1.8 (or on z/OS any release)?

I'm going to ask that he contact Oracle. I cannot as I don't have any
access.
