There is no IBM-supplied command to do this. Most MVS monitors (MXI G2 included) provide this service with big "Are you really sure?" warning stickers all over it.
I know that I go thru several verfication steps before I allow the MXI G2 user to actually free the storage - but even then you could be one enter key away from an IPL. I use the facility on my test/development systems - but I would be very nervous of doing so on a production system. Unless you are 100% sure that the storage can be released safely - I would leave it alone and schedule an IPL.
