There are other costs to consider. We upgraded our 9672 to a z800 a few years ago. Mis-judged latent demand and added software-based crypto so we ended up having to upgrade again after about two years (to a z9 this time, but that's beside the point). Two machine upgrades in two years = over $1.5 MILLION in upcharges. That's predatory in my opinion. Almost killed the project each time. The return on investment of a conversion gets real short when you're in that situation. And even shorter when you consider the blood pressure medication you don't have to purchase for a whole department. Negotiations begin again soon. I'm lining up replacements now so conversion can be done before they have us against the wall again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
