How about that IBM model 539 Pin ticket converter ? (made a terrible grinding sound...)
In the 60's - Clothing stores attached a pin ticket to dresses (for example), when sold, the tickets were sent to the DP department where unit record operators (like me) would put them on a spindel and feed them into a 539 that would (sometimes) convert them to a standard 5081cards, which were then fed to a card reader on the new S360-30 for an inventory system.
