How about that IBM model 539 Pin ticket converter ?
(made a terrible grinding sound...)

In the 60's - Clothing stores attached a pin ticket to dresses (for
example), when sold, the tickets were sent to the DP department where
unit record operators (like me) would put them on a spindel and feed
them into a 539 that would (sometimes) convert them to a standard
5081cards, which were then fed to a card reader on the new S360-30 for
an inventory system.
