Barbara's complaint is noted, but does not apply across every shop, of course.
When we went to z/OS 1.7 last year, we increased ECSA. No problem on our test systems, where 1.7 lived for months of testing before migrating. All was well, until we got to Prod. Suddenly a problem surfaced that had not been uncovered in Test. If three very large CICS trans all ran at the same time, they ate all of EPVT and then Bad Things Happened. No good warning or error messages from the applications, of course. Seems the transactions had been tested one at a time by the applications group in the Testplex, and declared good. I wasn't here yet when my colleague had changed the parameters as he installed 1.7, and the changes had been made in Parmlib so long before they'd been kinda forgotten. Health Checker's warning of the change in EPVT size was a great help. I don't mean to take anything away from Barbara's point that this thing could be easier to administer. I'm a little nuts, but not crazy enough to hint this product is anything but user-surly.
