I was also going to test it (as I do the same thing) and I did and it still works just as described.

That's news to me.
I just tested it and my connection for email to cell phone still works,
using the "old" [EMAIL PROTECTED] address.
Haven't heard from my provider that there'd be any changes.
We've been using SMTP (or XMITIP) to send short messages from the mainframe
to pagers or cell phones for years.

Subject: No more text messaging from mainframe?

[Cross posted to IBMTCP-L and MVS-OE]

For a couple of years now I've set our zPad up to be
able to send text messages to my cell phone. I know
that a number of companies do this so that if a
production job blows up the job has an extra step
that will notify support via a text message. Way
cool.

Today I was testing this out and could not get it
to work. I contacted my wireless provider and they
said they no longer support this. You can't even
send a text message to your cell from their website
like you used to be able to. Only mobile-to-mobile.

Has anyone else encountered this with their provider?
I'm currently using AT&T (started w/ AT&T, spun off
to become Cingular, bought back under AT&T) but I'm
thinking of switching to someone else. Any recomendations?
