I do not have the specifics, but I know while running DB2 V7 we were able to run SMF data through a 'special' program, I sent the output to someone else in our company, and they did the zIIP analysis. Not knowing the source of the 'special' program I am not going to pass it around. Not wanting to be guilty of advertising I will not post my company name here. You would be contracting with them to have them do this study and may not get the 'special' program. The norm is to send in the right SMF data after turning on certain DB2 traces.
Point is, the data can be gathered even on DB2 V7. Even without a zIIP engine eligible. The process helps justify buying the zIIP.
