You may also run the z/OS Bimodal Migration Accommodation Offering (i.e.
run z/OS 1.4 in 31-bit mode) on the System z9 for a period not to exceed
one year. Since you're coming from a z900 presumably that doesn't apply,
but for those of you coming off 31-bit systems it may be useful. This
helps you get up-and-running on the z9 then worry about any 64-bit
toleration maintenance as a second step. Then, once you get to 64-bit, you
can continue forward to newer z/OS releases to get current.

Just bear in mind that you cannot get subcapacity pricing until you get
everything onto 64-bit z/OS. (You'll pay full capacity.) So, in addition
to the 12 month license limit, you'll want to get over to 64-bit as fast as
you can to enjoy VWLC. I think you can start sending in SCRT reports,
though, to have a smooth cutover to VWLC.

Note that z/OS 1.4 and the Bimodal Migration Accommodation Offering are out
of support.
