Not directly an answer, but some questions to get the picture:

I suppose you mean cluster-1 and cluster-2 where you say grid-1 and
grid-2.
I suppose this is not due to a 3-way Grid, a 2-way Grid has the same
delay and problem?
You specify Deferred, not RUN, copypolicy for the tape? Deferred copies
are all delayed for a (hardcoded) 5 minutes, according to my experience.

Why is the application performance poor? Does the narrow bandwidth
between the clusters limit the performance of the application? Is the
performance of the replication similarly slow? 

What are you looking for? If the job is delayed until the copy has
finished, it will end later then when it reads the tape slowly, won't
it?
