The allocation occurs, just not the virtual tape mount. :-) But that is correct. Our backup job runs in a "hot batch" service class and even with hundreds of thousands of virtual tapes defined it only runs for a couple of minutes. DB2 archives go to virtual tape and as soon as all of the alternate logs fill up, DB2 stops. We can create "what if" scenarios all day that will cause problems. By why limit those to virtual tape? We've had DASD controller failures, CF, OS software, ISV software, even entire CEC go belly up. So your not convincing me of anything.
