Isn't it amazing that just a few years ago before the z machines came out, we had 2G to address everything on the machine. Now, we have a hole in the addressing scheme as big as what we used to have for total storage!

Huh? I was told that "The Bar" was the top of the 31-bit
addressable space. What did I miss?

The "bar" is actually 2GiB wide, beginning at 64-bit address
x'00000000_80000000' and ending at 64-bit address x'00000000_FFFFFFFF'.
In the context of this thread, the "bar" and the "hole" are one and the
same.
