Don't take my word for anything. Send yourself plain text (not HTML) email containing long URLs. Then you can see the effects of various settings for yourself without experimenting on the IBM-MAIN crowd. You'll need a way to look at the received email without client formatting. In Thunderbird, this is done using View -> Message Source (Ctrl+U). There should be an equivalent for your Apple mailer. If not, you can always try the free Thunderbird client for Mac.
