Some successor(s) to OS/360 supported split cylinder allocation. The latest successor does not, yet we still have the Format 6 DSCB's DSECT distributed as evidence of its support in the past. The comments in IECSDSL1 that say the Format 6 is no longer supported are associated with HDP3330 930122, all the changes of which are collectively described as "assorted cleanup".
