and ML2 tapes, do so.
Tape media are physically manipulated by both tape drives and Operations
personnel, and either can occasionally "fail" in ways that are
catastrophic for the tape media or its contents. To entrust 100's or
1000's of files to a tape without having a duplex copy is a disaster
waiting to happen.
Drive problems can be repaired; but if your media containing the one and
only copy of critical data is trashed, you're SOL.

to recover all the files off the tape, then recycle force the tape.
