Gadi, You don't mention if these drives are inside an ATL or not. That will make a slight difference. If they are inside an OAM managed IBM robot, you need to turn on a "compatibility" indicator (CA-1 always sets this indicator on, so it might already be on). This means that for compatibility purposes when a 3590B cartridge is called for as INPUT, it can be mounted on a 3590H drive.
The other possible problem is MOD processing. You will NOT be able to mod onto a cartridge that had its original data written on by a 3590B to be mod'ed onto by a 3590H drive. No need to reinitialize the tapes when they go scratch. That will be done automatically when they are mounted on a 3590H for output processing. If we go along with this upgrade, would I have to make any changes in the IO configuration? Would I have to reinitialize the tapes, or would that happen automagically? We are running z/OS 1.7 and CA-1 v11.5.
