No changes in, unless you upgrade from ESCON to FICON also.
However, assuming you have the drives in IBM ATL (3494), you need to
review you data classes. Recording format have to changed from 128TRK to
384TRK.
Would I have to reinitialize the tapes, or would that happen automagically?
Nothing will happen. You will be able to read existing data from the
tapes, but not update them.
You need to re-init tapes to write them in new format. I don't know CA1,
but I believe, you can order such activity as part of "return to scratch
processing".
