The reason we use TCPIP instead of VTAM is that we don't have VTAM connectivity
between all of our systems. NJE/TCPIP is pretty easy to set up and works well
with the exception of some known glitches that are being addressed (e.g.
automatic restart when a connection drops). I suspect in your case it comes
down to:

1. Do you want to play with NJE/TCPIP?
2. How long will your VTAM network remain in place?
3. Do you need NJE connectivity to anyplace outside of your VTAM network?

If you just want to experiment, the definitions can be easily removed when you
have finished.
