Back at the Seattle SHARE (MAR 2006),
Kathy Walsh's WSC Hot Topics session
http://shareew.prod.web.sba.com/proceedingmod/abstract.cfm?abstract_id=13912
had a foil titled "JES2 NJE Support for TCP/IP Performance Info"
where she said that:

- Overall system CPU utilization reduced by about 15%
- ETR (throughput) was improved 3 times
Measured in thousands of lines transferred per second
- ITR (internal throughput) was improved 2.5 times
Due to faster transfer and less CPU cycles per transmission

Her research was done with the pre-GA version of the code.
I don't know of any other research in this area.

Subject: JES2 NJE question: SNA(CTC) vs. TCPIP

I am just now looking at this. I have a Escon CTC between my two z/OS
1.8 images. It is currently used for VTAM cross domain. I funnel my NJE
traffic between the two images on this. Oh, these two images are on the
same physical box. I also have IP connectivity between them via OSAs. I
am considering activating a Hipersocket, which I have defined in the
HCD/IODF, but not in TCPIP as yet.

Is there any reason to consider using TCPIP NJE instead of the
old-fashioned VTAM NJE?

Is the answer different if I implement the hipersocket connection
between the two systems?

Just curious.
