You haver an interesting question but I think the root question is How
is the compatibility between the versions

IMHO it depends more on the shop than on the versions. What exits do they use? What local mods do they have? What 3rd party software do they have?

I agree that is a big consideration as well. Its been *AGES* and I don't remember the version but one of the TSO(e) products changed dramatically and it took 6 months of bringing in users on the weekends (no test LPARs & NO VM) to get the users comfortable with the new version of ISPF . I must admit I was surprised by all the differences we were so busy that we were not able to attend SHARE or GUIDE but I think I asked later of a friend that attended GUIDE about any special conversion issues that were brought up and he could not remember any sessions. So either it was us or the rest of the world could adopt to things that we weren't able to.

The EXITS issue is another PITA issue JES2 was pretty good for 10-15 years and then they really started to change the exits quite a bit every few versions. I tried it keep our exits pretty vanilla so no major work was required but I still remember hearing people crying in their beer at SCIDS one SHARE about the rewrites they had to go through. Is it their fault , yes... a little... but to change the basic code for an exit is inexcusable . Like at the SMF exits and the entry (and exit) had probably not changed in many many years (I am sure someone will find a minor issue with that but its probably a small issue).

I have a severe chest cod and its clouding my thought processes up a little so if I have been mistaken about something I apologize in advance but this cold will not go away.
