Just had a phone call where someone set me straight as to the cause of the problem. I am repeating it here:
On the system where HASP549 is issued (in my system it is really hasp549, while Mark cited hasp546), most probably the njedef statement contains mailmsg=yes, which is (for 1.8) not the default. $T,njedef,mailmsg=no will fix it, so the messages don't get issued anymore (yes, by JES2). In addition, an outdef parm of broadcast=yes will store the stuff to be delivered later. Thanks to the little bird who told me.... Regards, Barbara -- Psst!
