We do this today, somewhat. But the 8 character limitation for member
names and the 44 characters for DSNs are beginning to "cramp my style".

I may bring it up in our staff meeting, if I have time. But I'm likely
to get shot down because I'm the only one who actually has some liking
for UNIX on the staff. The others view it as a royal PITA. I just
implemented a Web page on z/OS which does an ISPF 3.4-like dataset
lookup so that non-TSO users can easily see if a file or files exist. We
have some people who need to know this because they have a process
(PowerExchange) which reads the files, but they need to know when the
files are available. In the past, they'd come over here wanting me to do
this for them. If anybody is interested, it is on the CBT tape as file
784. http://www.cbttape.org/ftp/upates/CBT784.ZIP
