I am happy to release it as Open Source. I have a few requirements
though:
1. Any alterations to the code must be made available to all.
2. The code is my copyright. It cannot be used as a trade secret or
patented by others.
3. The code cannot be used in a commercial product, without
negotiating with me. No more MS/DOS
4. The code cannot be used for war activities.
(What did I leave out...?). It will be licensed with the Apache License.
If you're serious about offering a product as open source, but you're
not happy with any of the (dozens of?) existing open source licenses,
you should author a new open source license and have it approved by an
open source body such as http://www.opensource.org/licenses. Don't just
post a list of additional restrictions on a discussion list. (The last
one is funny. Like "Six Degrees of Separation", just about every
business venture -- including ours -- can be shown to subsidize "war
activities" one way or another.) You'll learn a lot about how to write a
"legitimate" open source license from the approval process.
Under the terms of a legitimate open source license I would be happy to
give the product a try here.
