You'll see something like this:
$ lynx --dump --head http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/d
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Mon, 04 Aug 2008 15:20:51 GMT
Server: Apache
Connection: close
Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1

It tells you Apache is running, hence the "id the server" name, but not on what 
OS, since Apache runs on so many.
