The OS creates it when it creates an address space. Glad you found it. I haven't yet learned a good rule of thumb as to why some address space-related fields are in the ASCB, ASSB, or the ASXB. Sometimes I find the control block that has field X in it by doing an ISPF 3.14 with something resembling "X" in the search field and the data set name is first SYS1.MACLIB(*) and then SYS1.MODGEN(*) if necessary.
