Frank, One option you may want to look at is a converter box like Luminex. We don't use this box but we are in the process of figuring out a backup refresh on our Unix/Wintel environments and a couple of the vendors we talked to pitched the Luminex box to roll the mainframe into the project. I'm sure there are other products out there (like the BusTech somebody else mentioned).
We're a smaller shop so what we're actually looking at doing is bringing in a TS3400 baby library and moving our backups to it rather than the MagStars. Management wants to get rid to the Magstar and VTS and wants go to some other solution due to the high maintenance cost. On the open systems side of the house are currently using two CDL libraries systems from EMC and are getting two LTO systems in. EMC has products known as a MDL for the z/OS environment and we are currently looking at it. These are my questions. What are other people using as a tape solution at the various datacenters? Has anyone connected to or heard of anyone using any type of LTO units for the mainframe environment? If so what are they? Is anyone today using the EMC MDL solution? Thanks for you help.
