John, You are essentially correct. The original use for zIIP was for Distributed access to the mainframe (hence the enclaves) however more work is moving to exploit the zIIPs like encryption products (e.g. CA-Brightstore Tape Encryption), sort products, and DB2 utilities. You'd have to look at your products and talk to the vendors.
