Caveat:  If you're current.  Sometimes jumping driver levels, depeding upon 
what patches you do/don't have on your current driver can force a POR.

If your CE tells you a POR is required, hopefully it's because he's thorough in 
reading the doc provided with the microcode, and not simply "old school".

Some new features (e.g., STP) may require a POR to activate, depending on 
what level your machine is at.

IBM has worked very hard to mitigate the need for PORs, just as they have for 
sysplex-wide IPLs and JESx cold-starts, but exceptions still happen, and likely 
always will.
