Both are correct. The DB2 spaces (DBM1, MSTR, DIST and WLM-managed SPAS's) are all servers to the distributed DDF work and other like requestors. For these fundamental DB2 components to work in harmony with each other, they must all share the same performance characteristics (i.e., service class). The individual DDF transactions are now managed by WLM as enclaves, and are classified & managed according to business needs specified by the DDF subsystem type (under option 6 in the WLM panels).
IRLM itself is a server to the DB2 subsystem, and must be able to manage lock requests as well as respond to timeout and deadlock situations with utmost priority. Good reading is: DB2 Stored procedures: Through the Call and Beyond (SG-7083-nn), System Programmer Guide to WLM SG24-6472-03 (many examples of DDF classification) and z/OS Planning - WLM SA22-7602-15 .. I do have a few questions about assigning the DB2 DIST address spaces. I've defined a couple of service classes (DDFTEST and DDFPROD) to the DDF subsystem. Cheryl's quickstart policy recommends putting the DIST address space into the SERVERS service class since it is now managed by transaction goals. The DB2 Admin Guide says that all of the address spaces should run in the same service class (excluding IRLM). Which is correct? What do others do?
