It is general practice to keep the DB2 (v8 & higher) address spaces in
the same service class, largely to keep an overall workload-serving
balance. (We have ours with a goal of 60, importance 2; the actual
values can be processor-dependent and interplay with your other
workloads.)

xxxxDIST manages the TCP message flow and calls WLM to classify new DRDA
(i.e., DDF) work and creates the enclaves that represents it. It must
operate at a fairly high priority to keep the work and messaging
flowing, and really doesn't consume much in the way of resources as an
address space.

To gain perspective, think of your batch workload: all (well, most) DB2
application work (the SQL) occurs with the priority of the batch job,
even if the subsystem spaces are close to the top of the system. (DB2
application CPU is also charged back to the calling job.)

Sometimes it's really mind-twisting, but if you can get your head around
the enclave mechanism (as described in the posted references), it does
make sense.

Subject: Re: WLM and DB2

I should have pointed out that the SERVERS service class where xxxxDIST
would be assigned has a velocity of 70% while the ONLPRD where xxxxDBM1,

xxxxMSTR, and xxxxWLM address spaces would be assigned has a velocity
of
50%.
