That said, should the CATINDEX be cataloged? I have some usercat where the CATINDEX is catalog and some aren't.
---------------------------------------------------------------------- The CATINDEX is *ALWAYS* cataloged since it's the index portion of a VSAM KSDS. Its catalog entry is in the usercat for the catalog for which it is defined. The UCAT entry in the master catalog points to the user catalog. All information regarding the user catalog itself (like its constituent components such as the index) is contained in the user catalog. To see this info, specify the CATALOG parameter in the LISTCAT command as already pointed out by Martin Kline.
