I second Jantje.

I too had the privilege to work on AS/400s and found it not too far removed
from MVS. That the architecture is a flat address space (wow, hello SVS!), I
think the design calls for 2**128 address bits and that everything is
an "object" and that the underlying objects are implemented in a relational
database structure making for a fascinating study.

Google "Dr. Frank Soltis" for context.

Another thing that is interesting is that there was at one time an add-in card
that was designed to run Windows NT Server side-by-side with OS/400. And
oh by the way, John McK., like the z, the i System runs Linux without the
need to run it on top of a z/VM equivalent. I think you might enjoy that.

One of the things I liked about OS/400 was it's use of (or is still running)
(SNA)
APPN very early on (OS/400 version 2.3, I believe). Not to mention an
implementation of TCP/IP on subsequent releases.

Also love the compiled Command Language support. Great support for message
passing. Don't like: RPG. But you have the other languages too.
