That's how we do it: every LPAR has the exact same console UCB definitions. Names are made unique via system symbols. The controllers (a Visara and an IBM 2074) keep things straight.
Note: we do not define consoles in the IODF/IOCDS. Any true NIP issues are dealt with from the HMC console facility. The interface is a little clugy (not all prompts appear), but it works well enough for a shop that never IPL's. -----Original Message----- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Mark Zelden Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2009 8:15 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: NIP console devices limit On Tue, 13 Jan 2009 13:52:19 +0100, R.S. <[email protected]> wrote: > >However it seems weird for me: each MVS has UCB related to one(?) It's been that way since MVSCP. 2 LPARs can have the same address that are 2 completely different physical devices or visa versa if you want to make it really confusing to your operators!
