(Not the first time, right, Tom? In fact, you'll might recall most factors that added up to this particular gaffe.) However, you know we use the same symbol in LINK/LPA/APF entries as we do for the SYMBOLICRELATE for a given product, since we want to keep all product libraries in synch, and LINK/LPA entries cannot specify ALIAS names. Since LINK/LPA can't use them, we never bothered to define them. Further, if you remember how gnarly our master catalog setup is here, especially considering our lack of sysplex exploitation, that would be just one more item to overlook, and thus bugger up an otherwise *smooth* Sunday morning. Also, since the goal of SYMBOLICRELATE + IEASYMUP is to implement or regress an upgrade without an IPL, as is that of dynamic APF/LINK/LPA, why not use the two in concert? We just had to learn how to do it, starting with PARMLIB members to reduce Operator typing, and progressing (congressing?) to an AF/Oper routine to attempt (and fail) to make it even easier. The JES3 CONNECT was just another crack in the pavement for us. I figured I'd share our circumvention, since it took me a lot of digging through MVS Data Areas and IBMLink to piece it all together. To be fair, I get why the Redbook does not suggest *S xxxx,CONNECT, but I was disappointed that I could not find any mention of symbols and CONNECT processing in the JES3 manuals (could be my oversight). I may have even run it by the JES3-L list at the time, but I don't recall (due to AAADD - "Intelligent Design", my a$$).
