I recently purchased the Redbook titled "Introduction to the New Mainframe: z/OS Basics". There is a wealth of knowledge in that book and I would also suggest looking at the ABCs of System Programming redbooks (OS/390 and z/OS).
Also, I saw in a SHARE information email that there is a sample test for the IBM Entry Level for z/OS System Programmer Mastery test. "To prepare, study the textbook at www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg246366.html and take an assessment test ($10 fee) prior to taking the actual mastery test. The test is timed (90 minutes) and multiple choice format. It is also being offered on Tuesday at 4:30 PM." I can get him access to a z/OS system, but haven't got a clue as to how to start the process. This is someone who has a fairly good background in PC's, web design, networking, etc., etc. The path I took into mainframes some 35 years ago isn't available today. As far as we know, there isn't any education available at any of the colleges or universities locally. Anyone know of anything available to start someone off? --Dave Day ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
