Lizette, thanks for mentioning the Marist z/OS program. The web site for anyone that wants more information on the Marist z/OS program is www.idcp.org/learnzos
With regard to trying to learn about z/OS on your own, I guess it is possible, but it is daunting. We have some experience with professionals trying to learn z/OS using "self paced" learning (where the materrials are all laid out for the students but there is no instructor) and the results were just not as good as when there is an instructor led class (as all of our classes are). And our instructors are all experts in z/OS with decades worth of experience (some of them regularly post to this forum). And when you are "done" (you are never really "done" ), how does an employer know that you really know something about z/OS or what you know? The z/OS Mastery exam is a credential that is becoming more widely recognized, so I agree that is a good first step for someone just getting started with z/OS. If anyone wants more information on the program, feel free to contact me. Also, by getting the REDBOOKS such as ABCs or Introduction to the New Mainframe: z/OS Basics will be a good reading start. Lizette Regards, Angelo Angelo F.
