I don't think you can use DFDSS or FDR to decrease the size of an HFS.

1.) You have to allocate a smaller HFS.

2.) Mount it to a temporary location.

3.) cd to the large HFS mountpoint

4.) then pax -r -w -p e -X . /(mount point of new smaller HFS)

Now you have a smaller HFS to do with as you please.
