I know that the Type and Mode are necessary if you want to transfer ISPF stats, as in Type E MODE B LOCSITE ISPFStats SITE ISPFStats but I don't think it is necessary for load module transfers. I've been sucessful wothout them. MPUT * works, too. In some old releases the FTP client and server used to invoke IEBCOPY under the cover but I don't see evedence of that any more. In fact IEBCOPY used to be invoked separately for each member when MPUT was used (making it a LOT faster to do the unloading and reloading outside of FTP). If that is still being done, it is done very quietly.
