I just received another z/Journal email sponsored by Microsoft urging us to get off the mainframe and going to .NET. I'm sure that Microsoft pays z/Journal big bucks to advertise, but if every mainframe user followed MS advertising, there wouldn't be a need for the z/Journal. <SNIP> I went and found the article being advertised. I read it. I would LOVE to see the size of the mainframe they were using. I would also love to see a true apples to apples comparison of the two systems. I find it very interesting that they didn't even try to convert the COBOL code to something else. They used Realia (I think I have that spelled right) who has a .net capable COBOL compiler. And they migrated to the M/S SQL server. So what kind of I/O problems did the old system have that going to two of these new M/S Servers allowed them to cut their nightly processing window in half (from 4 hours to 2, was it?). There's a lot of missing stuff. This is the kind of article written by marketing people for airline magazines to use as articles (my personal opinion). Perhaps someone should contact Amy Novotny and ask her a few questions.
