It is not obsolete, but replaced by third generation of "Jaguar" family. I assumed you mean 3592-J1A which is the first generation. The second one is also 3592: 3592-E05. 2. I'd suggest SCSI command reference. However you'll get reference of the drive commands which is good idea if you talk directly to the drive. Not a mainframe case. For mainframes you should read controller specs. <SNIP> [SCSI Command reference] Which seems to be lacking on the IBM web pages for this unit. However, everywhere I turn I find the following: "Effective September 29, 2006, IBM will withdraw from marketing the 3592 Enterprise Tape Drive." : : "The IBM TotalStorage 3592 Enterprise Tape Drive has been replaced by the IBM System Storage TS1120 Tape Drive" But the controller info is not quite so readily available. The Redbook, "IBM System Storage Solutions Handbook" states also, "Note: IBM has announced it will withdraw all models of the IBM TotalStorage 3590 Tape Drive on September 29, 2006. It is replaced by the IBM TotalStorage 3592 Tape Drive Model J1A and IBM System Storage TS1120 Tape Drive." Yet, no where can I find the information on the controller. Even the links given go to dead ends. Our problem is, certain options with NOTE/POINT are causing heartburn with this device.
