Ok.  I know that  the C/C++ compiler and z/OS Unix are not the 
same thing, but let me take your suggestion and stretch it a bit
(perhaps beyond appropriateness).   

We can lessen the pain of using z/OS Unix by not using it.  

Effectiv.  But performing such tricks is not likely to incresse our 
fondness of the product.
